Quelle surprise, I know.
Those ratings are now being led by the absolutely insane Glenn Beck, who clearly was held in check when he was at CNN Headline News because now he's obviously channeling the likes of Peter Beter, Myron C. Fagan and William Guy Carr.
Of course, he doesn't actually need to channel those guys. He's got Michelle Bachmann, who wants her fellow Minnesotans "armed and dangerous" for the coming battles with whatever eVille plots have gotten hold in her weak and degenerate mind.
It's pretty hard to find a more kooky congresswoman than Michelle Bachmann, or a more obviously insane talker than Glenn Beck.
But that doesn't keep 'em from trying.
And now it looks like the rest of the Fox News' lineup is falling in behind Beck. First Sean Hannity, along with Dick Morris, claiming the G-20 summit is proof of the coming One World Government, and then comes Bill O'Reilly, not to be left out, wondering whether Obama is "selling out America" and claiming it's getting pretty clear to him and the rest of normal America that the black guy is aiming for a "combine of governance (that's O'Reilly speak for One World Government).
Can Greta van Susteren be far behind? And poor Shepherd Smith. He needs to get with the program. Wolf Blitzer keeps beating him in the ratings.
Not to be outdone, CNN's Lou Dobbs is on the same topic, along with his usual xenophobia. Although, I gotta say, that rather lengthy URL is rather wrong -- CNN is not the most liberal network. Not by a long shot. But it's usually not on the level of Fox "News," either. Well, except for Lou Dobbs.
But y'know, I'm thinking that one world government would be a pretty good idea. Problem is, of course, who would be that government. The Fox "News" nuts are all over the map with it. It's the rich people (seems like they'd like that), the Democrats (who are actually socialists), sometimes the aliens and apparently now, although they're doing their best to keep that they think this under wraps, the black people. Well, OK. So they really haven't done that good a job keeping it a secret.
Barack Obama, see, he's a Manchurian Candidate kinda guy. Did you know that 20 percent of white, evangelical Christians still think Obama is Muslim? And that 17 percent of Republicans think the same thing? That's why he doesn't have a birth certificate. "They" (pick your "they") have been grooming him since birth to destroy America and make it a part of this nefarious one world government. That's why the Beck-Bachmann team went apeshit over the idea of adopted one world currency, even though that wasn't on the table at all.
What was being discussed -- although it's never going anywhere -- is having a global reserve currency. That's what countries use for international transactions. They can also use it to manipulate the value of their own currency -- or, if they're the owner of the reserve currency, then they can manipulate that value. The idea is that having a completely separate currency for reserves would make things more equitable and less arbitrary.
But Beck-Bachmann never bothered to mention that.
But there's all kinda good conspiracy theories that Fox could take up next. How about that the moon landings were faked? Or that there are reptilian aliens disguised as humans walking amongst us and they must consume human blood to maintain the illusion?
And barcodes? They're to control the population. Or maybe that one's been upgraded to chips implanted beneath the skin. I'm never sure.
Also, there are a whole bunch of "free" or nearly free energy sources that have been suppressed by the government. Or the auto industry. Or the oil companies. Or all three -- it is a conspiracy, after all.
And then there's the Vatican Secret Archives, wherein all manner of secret archival material that could blow the lid off the whole thing are kept.
And let's not forget that our new president is working hard to take the guns away from all hard-working, decent Americans, even the ones who kill cops who are responding to a domestic violence call, because, geez, there's not real correlations between people with guns, domestic violence calls and cops getting killed. Digby:
This is one of the wierd fault lines in American politics --- the police who have to face the armed citizenry and the macho right wing zealots whose only answer for anything is for everyone to carry more guns. It's incidents like today's that bring home the fallacy of that argument in living color -- the cops are all armed and three of them got mowed down today by a gun nut.
The black helocopter crowd went underground during the Bush years, blithely unconcerned with the Cheney police state, (which proves just what a bunch of gullible tools they really are.) They only get aroused when someone tells them a liberal is in office and so it's time to stock up on weaponry to repel the jack-booted thugs.
...
But I can guarantee you that no matter what, nobody will be allowed to intelligently or coherently discuss whether or not the availablility of all these guns might be a factor. The right has successfully made that a taboo subject akin to atheism or communism. Indeed, for these people, it's the only part of the Bill of Rights which is not subject to the old saw, "the constitution isn't a suicide pact," (which is kind of ironic since so many of these rampages seem to be just that.) Why, even though we are arming the drug cartels that are turning the the border into a shooting gallery, Lou Dobbs has an aneurysm at even the suggestion that easily available guns in the US might be contributing to the problem.
If Niewert is correct, this is probably only the beginning of some unpleasantness. The radio gasbags are getting more and more incoherent and wild and the population most subject to their violent rants are armed to the teeth. I think we can all see where this might be headed.
I think this kinda shit could keep Fox "News" busy for a long time. And, apparently, the lunatic fringe is loving it.
Meanwhile, the rest of us are trying to figure how what to do to fix the mess we're in, leaving us with little time to contemplate whether the Bush administration was in on September 11.
But that's probably because we're all being mind controlled by the Powers That Be to keep us from thinking about such things. Not sure why it doesn't work on Glenn Beck.
Maybe that Mormon underwear really does protect the wearer.
